Association of Recreation Enthusiasts
Association of Recreation Enthusiasts (A.R.E) is a professional development organization for Recreation Studies: Community, Outdoor and Therapeutic Recreation majors and minors at Texas State University. It is a student run organization with faculty advisors. It exists to promote the field of recreation and leisure services, to serve the university and surrounding community, and to connect members with resources that they can use in the future.
To achieve our purpose, A.R.E. members engage in a variety of activities and events. Each year we go to conferences and workshops around the state and even nation, to learn from professionals in the field and network toward future fieldwork, internships, or jobs. To help offset the costs of these travels, A.R.E. holds fundraising projects such as t-shirt sales or selling concessions at events. In addition, members volunteer at recreation events offered by agencies in the area to serve our community while gaining valuable professional skills.
Some examples of events for which we have volunteered are:
- Larry Turner Classic Wheelchair Basketball Tournament
- Recreation Studies Agency Fair - Exclusive to Recreation & Therapeutic Rec Agencies
- Adaptive Track and Field Clinic for Texas Regional Games
- SMPARD - Farmer Fred's Spring Carnival
- Texas Regional Games Paralympic
